Director and Field Producer

Directing and Producing Documentary and Documentary-Style work is where I am most at home, but I love to stretch that aesthetic to other genres. I love how multi faceted the Producer/Director role is- and how it inevitably leads me to new connections with facinating people and bodies of work/knowledge. I'm especially interested in authentic, deeply humanizing stories about passionate visionaries and persecuted eccentrics. I've worked in every role on a set, and that gives me a good base to extend that humanizing and creative process to the crew as well. I have been told I create inclusive, positive work environments, and that is one of the best compliments I could hope for as a project leader. It's important to me that the work deliver its intended meaning for a client, but I think it's equally important that the community that makes the work has a positive experience where their craftmanship and humanity are honored. I think that this quality carries through to the work itself. I've had a few lives as a content creator; as the environmental editor at PBS Detroit (PBS, Frontline), as a radio producer (this American Life), a narrative filmmaker (Sleepover LA SXSW 2014) and film educator (University of Missouri Columbia, Interlochen Center for the Arts, Maine Media Workshops, New Orleans Video Access Center among others), I've published a few essays and photographs, and made experimental/immersive cinema that has been performed and exhibited in festivals and galleries around the globe. I'm enjoying recent work as a Director of commercials and corporate nonifiction-syle narratives and looking for more storytelling opportunities along those lines!
